Aleppo Thermal Power Plant challenged terrorism and blockade to generate light

Aleppo, SANA- After stoppage lasted years due to crimes by terrorists who sabotaged and caused heavy damage to its facilities and equipment, Aleppo Thermal Plant resumed its work in generating the electricity and providing Syria with 200 Megawatt after the fifth set has been maintained by national experts and technicians.

Speaking to SANA, General Director of the plant, Mazen Samaqiah, said that the plant ,25 km east of Aleppo, consists of five steam generating sets each of them with a capacity of 213 megawatt. The plant was established by the Japanese corporation of Mitsubishi ,and it has operated since 1997.

Samaqiah stated that the plant continued providing the country with power till 2013; the year when it was subjected to attacks by terrorists, adding that its cadres kept servicing the citizens despite the heavy attacks.

He went on to say that in 2015 the terrorist organization of ISIS occupied the plant taking it as a base for its attacks before it was restored by the heroes of the Syrian Arab Army in 2016.

Despite the systematic and heavy damage, the rehabilitation had started by determination to complete the maintenance work and conduct the technical experiments of the fifth set at the beginning of the current month before it was put into service during the visit of President Bashar al-Assad to it ,he stressed.

Samaqiah noted that the maintenance works are still underway to rehabilitate the first set to re-operate again at the end of 2022, so it can support the country with 200 megawatt of power, referring to overcoming all the obstacles which have been faced, on top of which securing spare parts.

SANA’s camera observed the maintenance works at the power plant as Production manager at Power Generating Corporation, Najwan al-Kouri indicated that operating the set and connecting it with the network generate, initially, 150 megawatts and it will be raised up till 200 megawatt, saying that national experts and technicians are working around the clock to restore the whole capacity of the plant.
