President al-Assad receives Abdollahian: We welcome Iran’s participation in meetings concerned in building dialogue between Damascus and Ankara

Damascus, SANA-President Bashar al-Assad on Thursday discussed with Foreign Minister of Iran, Hussein Amir Abdollahian and an accompanying delegation, issues of mutual concern and the developments on the regional and international arenas, in addition to Iran’s participation in the meetings concerned in building dialogue between Damascus and Ankara.

President al-Assad welcomed the Iranian side joining to those meetings, affirming that there should be good preparations for them based on an agenda, titles, specified and clear outcomes.

In this regard, the President said that interests of the Syrian people are the basis in any political steps adopted by the State, adding that the outcomes of these steps should come in the interest of the Syrian people.

Abdollahian, for his part, reaffirmed Iran’s keenness on supporting the Syrian people, unity and territorial integrity, saying that his country has full confidence in the Syrian stances and decisions and it will back these stances in the quartet meetings.

President al-Assad considered that the visit of the Iranian Minister and the accompanying delegation to the disaster areas in Lattakia is a continuation to the efforts of Iran to help the Syrian people overcome the repercussions of the earthquake, and it reflects the deeply-rooted ties that bind the two countries and peoples.

Abdollahian expressed sympathy and condolence to the Syrian people, saying that his country, since the first day of the earthquake, has spared no efforts to call for lifting the unjust sanctions imposed on Syria.

He also expressed satisfaction over the track of rapprochement between Syria and the Arab states.
