Syrian-Russian relations … Long history of coordination and joint vision

Damascus, (SANA) – Since 1944, the Syrian-Russian relations have witnessed major developments in all political, economic, social and military domains that made Damascus and Moscow overcome the boundaries of traditional friendship and prepare for new levels of strategic cooperation and comprehensive coordination regarding all issues.

Given that, the two countries sought for long years to build a system of new relations in the international politics based on balance, pluralism and multi-polarism, in addition to rejecting the use of force by one side as a means to resolve international crises.

Russia declared support to Syria in face of the western and regional countries’ attempts to impose their agendas that contradict the international law and the interests of the Syrian people as well as the independence of the Syrian state.

Russia has used the veto four times the UN Security Council to prevent the western and regional powers from passing their plans against Syria.

The strong and distinguished relations between the Syrian and Russian peoples had great impact on easing the suffering of the Syrians because of the economic sanctions and the terrorist aggression to which Syria is exposed.

In 2008, President Bashar al-Assad visited Russia to develop the Syrian-Russian relations and push them forwards. The visit reflected the volume of co-understanding and coordination concerning all issues on the regional and international arenas.

President al-Assad’s visits to Moscow in 2005 and 2006 and his talks with President Vladimir Putin and Russian officials and the agreements signed in the political and economic fields have bolstered the good and developing relations between the two countries .

In 2010, Russia’s former President, Dmitri Medvedev, paid a visit to Syria to crown the desire of the two countries to enhance the strategic partnership and upgrade bilateral cooperation in various fields.

A large number of Russian experts are working in the economic and construction sectors in Syria while Russian companies are offering technical help in the fields of energy, oil, irrigation and water.
