Minister: Reports of drop in Euphrates River water levels exaggerated

Damascus, SANA. Water Resources Minister Bassam Hanna said that reports by biased media outlets on the drop in the water levels of Euphrates levels becoming a problem are exaggerated, and that slight drops are annual issues that don’t warrant concern.

Meeting People’s Assembly members from Aleppo on Monday, the Minister said that media outlets are exaggerating this issue to pressure the Syrian people, and that the actual cause for drinking water shortages in Aleppo are caused by terrorist groups attacking water stations.

He said that the Ministry and other sides have taken steps to provide water to all areas in Aleppo city.

In a Skype call during the meeting, the Director General of the Water Establishment in Aleppo said that repairs are underway for main pumping stations in Aleppo, asserting that water being provided is clean and potable, and that efforts are made to deliver water to neighborhoods where water shortages have become severe.
